8TH GRADE TEXT BOOK

Unit II Discipleship

Overview

Christian discipleship is the process and practice of being a true follower of Jesus Christ. Discipleship is a life long process that begins with receiving Christ as Lord and Savior. Learning from Jesus Christ, the Master Teacher, the disciple becomes His follower. The follower’s life, as a learner, when marked by obedience, love, and faithfulness, becomes a role model. Discipleship involves living in constant denial of self and taking up one’s own cross daily and following Jesus. It demands complete obedience and a commitment to Christ. Hearing, reading, studying, memorizing, meditating on the Word of God, and applying Christ’s message in one’s own life is the way to become a successful disciple. Disciples should fellowship with the people of God, and show the evidence of discipleship in their life through obedience to God, love for one another and bearing the fruit of the Spirit.
